How To Apply

The Main Idea looks for role models who have a positive outlook on life.  They must be energetic and flexible, and believe in the life-changing results that a magical camp experience can have for a child.  A willingness to dole out smiles, hugs, high-fives, and encouragement is a must.  Be prepared to have tons of fun in the process!

No camp experience is necessary prior to working at The Main Idea; however past experience working with children is essential.  You must be at least 19-years old or have completed your first year of college. Female staff will live in bunks with the campers and act as bunk counselors. They will work alongside male staff in teaching and coaching daily activities.  Male staff will be provided with separate housing and, during designated bunk times, will be asked to fulfill other camp duties.  All meals will be provided and there will be compensation for some transportation expenses.

The Main Idea offers a wide variety of camp activities such as swimming, canoeing, sailing, arts and crafts, climbing, yoga, land sports, tennis, horseback riding, archery, dance, drama, woodworking, outdoor exploration, and overnight camping.

Camp rests along beautiful Walden Pond in a majestic area of towering pines in Denmark, Maine. Denmark is in the heart of the Sebago Lakes region and is only 30 minutes away from the White Mountains, home to the Presidential Mountain Range.  We are approximately one hour west of Portland, 40 minutes east of North Conway and 20 minutes from the beautiful Saco River.

If you love working with children and want to make a difference in our campers’ lives while being in the great outdoors, then The Main Idea at Camp Walden is the place for you!
