Prepare Your Camper
First Time Campers
Going to camp for the first time is super exciting, but we know it can also be a bit scary for new campers. To help your camper have a fantastic time at Main Idea, you can
Talk about it. Have a chat with your camper about their feelings and thoughts. If they have any worries, talking about it can make them feel better. Remember, camp is all about making new friends and having a blast!
Pack the important stuff. Along with the list of things your camper needs for camp, pack their favorite stuffed animal or a family photo – these things make them feel comfortable in a new place.
Get excited together. Think about all the cool things your camper will do at camp! Talk about the fun activities, making new friends, and learning new stuff. It's going to be awesome!
Say goodbye with a smile. When dropping off your camper, keep goodbyes short and sweet. Remind them that you'll be eager to hear about all the new adventures when they return.
Returning Campers
We’re thrilled to see your camper again. Even if your camper had a blast at camp in the past, she may have nervous to go back. To get her ready for a smooth return, you can
Talk about it. Talk with your camper about the awesome things they did last time. Remind them of the friends they made and the cool activities they enjoyed. Looking at the camp yearbook together might be helpful for driving those conversations.
Pack the important stuff. Make packing a fun family activity. Let your camper choose a few special items to bring back those camp memories. Check the camp's packing list to make sure you've got everything.
Get excited together. Talk about what your camper is looking forward to this time. Are there new activities they want to try? Ask what they think the bunk theme will be or who they’re looking forward to seeing again.
Say goodbye with a smile. When dropping off your camper, keep goodbyes short and sweet. Remind them that you'll be eager to hear about all the new adventures when they return.
